TWO MILE BORRIS, CO. TIPPERARY

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING CONSULTANCY

This project involved constructing a large vaulted-ceiling extension to an existing bungalow in Co. Tipperary.

The length of the room would have required a very large ridge beam to limit deflections. We came up with the innovative solution to incorporate a structural column disguised as a chimney flue to prop the ridge beam above the room dividing hearth. The fire itself is electric and didn't need a flue. A circular column was lined with a stainless steel flue liner, which was in keeping with the scheme.

A large room dividing concrete hearth was beautifully prepared off site by concrete fair. The concrete panels conceal the steel frame supporting the ridge prop.

The extension created new dining, living, and kitchen areas.
